Helping children better understand the Bible is the focus of the new “” released February 18 by Thomas Nelson Publishing. ��������’s Dr. Kevin Jones, dean of the school of education, provided study helps for the Bible. 

Through 50 books of the “Armor of God Bible,” Jones contributed 500 Armor of God Notes and 50 mini devotionals that highlight the armor of God. These devotionals help guide young readers in their understanding of Scripture.  

Jones approached this project with both expertise and heart. He consulted his local librarian to help him find children’s books that would help him develop a voice that resonates with young readers. He also turned to his 11-year-old daughter, Karsynn, who carefully read through the lens of a child. These thoughtful steps to convey complex theological issues in an approachable way helped Jones craft his devotionals to connect with kids with an elementary reading level.  

For Jones, introducing young readers to the armor of God and connecting it to various books of the Bible was more than an academic endeavor — it was personal. Unlike many other children’s Bibles, “The Armor of God Bible” provides a comprehensive study of spiritual warfare, showing how biblical figures relied on God’s strength throughout history. 

“Writing the study notes for this Bible was deeply personal,” said Jones. “I wasn’t just writing for an audience — I was writing for my own children, nieces and nephews. My goal was to help kids see how the armor of God applies to their lives.” 

His vision goes beyond simple storytelling; it's about equipping young readers with biblical truths in a way that speaks to their everyday experiences. By making Scripture relatable and engaging, Jones hopes to foster a deeper understanding of faith from an early age — one devotional at a time.
