黑料社区 Health Fair to Offer Free Screenings and Education Dec. 4

More than 200 local students will receive free health screenings and health education during 黑料社区鈥檚 Interdisciplinary Health Fair on Thursday, Dec. 4 鈥 an event that combines hands-on student learning with real community impact. The event, which is open to the public, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Stevens Student Center event rooms. 

Multi-Disciplinary Student Collaboration Promotes Public Health

Hosted by the School of Nursing, the health fair brings together students from Cedarville鈥檚 athletic training, education, pharmacy, psychology and social work programs to serve kindergarten through 12th grade students from local homeschool groups and area schools. 

鈥淭he Interdisciplinary Health Fair serves to provide evidence-based health education, learning activities for students, screenings and preventive care resources for students and families,鈥 said Dr. Michele Dodds, assistant professor of nursing. 鈥淏y participating, school-age students not only gain valuable knowledge but also contribute to the development of compassionate, competent future professionals.鈥 

Health Fair Activities Include Screenings and Wellness Education

What attendees will experience: 

  • Free vision screenings and blood pressure checks 
  • Healthy snack preparation and fitness challenges 
  • Hand-washing demonstrations 
  • Educational booths on mental health, stress management and online safety 

Cedarville students across disciplines will lead the stations, reinforcing their clinical and public health training while developing leadership, communication and teamwork skills. 

Event Fosters Career Interest and Gospel-Centered Care

鈥淐edarville students will further develop leadership qualities that strengthen their communication, teamwork and teaching skills while reinforcing their clinical and public health knowledge,鈥 said Dr. Angelia Mickle, dean of the 黑料社区 School of Nursing. 

Healthcare students interact with area children at the on-campus health fair.In addition to promoting healthy habits, the event introduces young attendees to potential careers in health care and encourages early interest in the field. 

鈥淲e hope that the young attendees leave the fair with a stronger conviction on taking care of their health,鈥 said Mickle. 鈥淲hether it be building healthy eating habits or prioritizing preventative care, we desire for students to see health care as an extension of Christ鈥檚 love and care for his people.鈥  

The Interdisciplinary Health Fair reinforces Cedarville鈥檚 commitment to developing community-focused health care professionals who promote health equity and wellness for all. Through experiential learning, leadership development and public health outreach, students across multiple disciplines are encouraged to integrate their education while demonstrating their commitment to the university鈥檚 gospel mission.
